To become a Eucharistic Minister please contact Mila Agpaoa, Eucharistic Ministry (EM) Coordinator at ems@ctkla.org.
To become a Homebound Minister please contact Susan Van Allen, Homebound Ministry Coordinator at homebound@ctkla.org.
The Eucharistic Celebration is the memorial of Jesus’ paschal meal. Therefore, it is right that the faithful attending Mass, who are properly disposed, receive the Lord’s body and blood as spiritual food as He commanded.
If a large number of the faithful are present at the Mass, the priest celebrant will frequently need assistance in distributing communion so that the communion rite is not unduly long. The priest will regularly need assistance when communion is given under both species, the form of communion that more clearly signifies the Eucharistic banquet. The deacons and assisting priests will help as ordinary ministers of the Eucharist.
However, special ministers of the Eucharist (extraordinary ministers) are needed to give assistance.
At Christ the King, since our parish is so large and because we do offer communion under both species, special ministers of the Eucharist are necessary.
These ministers serve Christ present in the assembly by administering His Body and Blood to the faithful. They also serve by taking communion to those members of the community unable to take part in the Mass due to illness or being confined to their homes.
Those selected to be special ministers of the Eucharist must be fully initiated members of Christ the King Parish, manifesting in their lifestyle a love of God and their fellow man. They must also be regular participants in the sacramental life of the church, particularly at Mass on Sundays and holy days and, if possible, daily Mass. Because some of these special ministers also take communion to the sick and homebound, they should also possess the maturity necessary to minister in these sometime difficult situations.
At Christ the King, parishioners are invited to become Eucharistic Ministers. They are selected by recommendation or by having expressed a desire to become a Eucharistic Minister.
- Homebound Ministers - take communion to the homes of those members of our parish family that are unable to attend Mass regularly. The ministers are asked to visit once per week. These ministers serve the special purpose of keeping all our parish family united and in touch with the Church and the sacraments. If you know of anyone who is homebound and wishing to receive Holy Communion, call the parish office at: (323) 465-7605.
- Hospital Ministers (Sunday 12noon mass only)- visit Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. In addition to their instruction as Eucharistic Ministers, they are thoroughly trained and authorized by CHLA and Medical teams for ministry to those children in ICU units. Ministers visit the hospital on a weekly basis.
