Christ the King School is making a serious effort to restore meaning to this holy season. We ask all families to encourage their children to make and keep pious resolutions during these four weeks. Students are already showing their willing spirit by collecting toys to give to needy families. They are also beginning to practice for their Christmas Nativity Concert which will take place in the church on Thursday, December 17 at 7:00 p.m.

Thanksgiving Food Drive: CTK students are to be commended for their generous and enthusiastic response to the annual Thanksgiving Food Drive. The food was graciously received by St. Vincent's Cardinal Manning Food Shelter in Downtown L.A. and then distributed to needy members of our community. Thank you students!

Respect Life Competition: We congratulate the winners of this year's Respect Life Essay Competition. Eighth grade student, Agnes Kim, was awarded a prize of twenty five dollars for her essay, Hope and Trust in Life. Second place (fifteen dollars) was awarded to Divya George, and third place (ten dollars) to Youn Sook Jang. We also congratulate the following students who won gift certificates to Borders for their winning posters: Alyanna Santos (K), Micah Smith (1st), Charleen Choomngerm (2nd), Kevin Lee (3rd), Julie Lee (4th) and Jasmine Morales (5th). We thank the Knights of Columbus for donating the cash prizes and gift certificates.

Academic Decathlon: Our Junior High students are meeting regularly and studying hard in order to compete in this big event which will take place in the Sports Arena on March 6. We wish our students well during this demanding and challenging preparation time!

Loyola Tutoring Program: Twenty of our eighth grade students have now completed the six week tutoring program offered by Loyola High School students and alumni. We are very grateful to all those who assisted our students with the preparation for their High School Placement Tests, which will be administered in the upcoming months in all the Catholic High Schools. We wish our 8th graders every success.

Mary Poppins: We all enjoyed a delightfully entertaining afternoon at the luxurious Ahmanson Theater on November 25. The musical adaptation of P. L. Travers' classic series of books and the 1964 Disney movie was warmly received by all the students. They thoroughly enjoyed the great singing (especially Supercalifragilisticexpialadocious and Let's Go Fly a Kite), extraordinary special effects and superb choreography.

Sports: We are very proud of our Varsity football team who made it into the sweet sixteenth round of the CYO tournament. This was a great achievement. We congratulate our girls' Bee volleyball team for wrapping up the season with a first place win in the St. Cecilia's Tournament. Great job!
