ARCHBISHOP GOMEZ TO BLESS NEW DIVINE MERCY SHRINE AT CHRIST THE KING PARISH IN HOLLYWOOD
In a special ceremony, Archbishop José H. Gomez will bless and declare Christ the King Parish in Hollywood (624 N. Rossmore Ave., Los Angeles, CA 90004) the new Archdiocese’s new shrine of the Divine Mercy, on Saturday, October 14, 2023, starting at 5:30 p.m. For two decades since September 2023, Christ the King has been the home of the only image of the Divine Mercy blessed by St. Pope John Paul II, which was brought to the parish from Poland. Since it is the only image of the Divine Mercy in the United States blessed by the saint, it is considered a relic.
The image has been venerated since then in a particular section of Christ the King Church, which also includes paintings of Saint Faustina Kowalska, to whom the image of the Divine Mercy Incarnate was revealed in 1931. She was canonized in 2000.
Father Antonio Cacciapuoti, current pastor of the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels, and Father George J. Bobowski, both former pastors of Christ the King, were key in blessing and assigning a place to the image, which has been venerated by thousands of parishioners and members of the wider community in the U.S. and the world since the church started hosting annual Divine Mercy congresses in 2006.
In 2019, Fr. Juan Ochoa became Christ the King’s administrator and then pastor, and since then he embraced the devotion to the Divine Mercy and committed himself to declare Christ the King as the Archdiocese’s Sanctuary of Divine Mercy. For more information, visit https://ctkla.org.
